We have had so much fun with our outdoor play this summer! We love getting outside running and jumping and playing! The popsicles are delicious, the sun is hot, and the water is cold!

Sunshine Kids baby camp is a perfect first camp experience for kids 0-24 months. We provide a fun, safe and nurturing environment for our little campers. Babies enjoy a full day of activities that include arts & crafts, painting, music, gym, water play, story time and socialization.
Our camps are held during summer and are offered in weekly increments. We also offer mini-camps during winter and spring breaks. Let your child's growing curiosity and imagination take part in our camps! We also offer Preschool camps as well as school age camps, These camps are held during the same time periods and allow children of multi age groups to come together, learn from one another, communicate and work with others. All campers are split into age groups and have a camp counselor, then go through a series of camp activities throughout the day. "A perfect combination of fun and learning!" Our first field trip of the summer was a success! The Kids had a great day today going to the local pool. The kids had a great time interacting with each other and had some fun doing some imaginative play pretending to be super heroes and zombies!
We also had a great craft day; we made super hero capes and pom pom shooters! Then went out side for a great game of tag. Today in our Super Hero camp we had to go a little Turtle Style! Although I am not so sure the Ninja turtles are super heroes? We played a little water game, where the object of the game was to try and get your friends soaked with mutated sponges from the mutant slime bowl! In all reality it was a great way to keep the kids active and cool at the same time with all of the hot humid sticky weather. We finished up our day by playing in the kid wash, running relay races, and doing some awesome foot and hand painting. Super hero style!
Welcome to Super Hero camp!
This week we will begin our Super hero training and find our true super hero identities! This camp gives the kids a chance to dress up like their favorite super hero’s and charge through obstacle courses with their hand made shields, swords, cuffs and masks. The course tests the limits of what a two- to six-year-old child can face, featuring small hurdles, tunnels, and a gauntlet of cones complete with flying balls, and fun games like super hero and villain tag. Children are encouraged and cheered on by their camp counselors and peers, promoting a sense of self-worth and accomplishments. The super hero’s often get to go on top secret missions to save another super hero, or to defend against the evil villain forces. A very important role played by our camp counselors. There are multiple options like this every week, the superhero theme is perhaps the most popular and is an exciting and active adventure for the kids to use their imaginations, a very important role in their early childhood development. This camp will be held from June 22nd- June 26th. Fairy Tales and Water play have been our focus this week at Sunshine Kids. We have had some pretty awesome projects and it is only Tuesday. Yesterday we did a really fantastic science project that was not only scientific we gave our fine motors and sensory areas an extreme work out. During the morning we froze some water and sequins in ice cube trays, then in the afternoon we each tried to build ice castles before they melted! It was an actual race against time to get the cubes set and into the shape of a castle. We worked together to build our castles up and did a fantastic job with our communication skills!
Today was another awesome day in our Fairy tale camp! We started our morning out by running obstacle courses and splashing in our lazy daisy that for some reason made us think of Alice in wonderland. With all the talking flowers and crazy tunnels and doors she had to go through. We made some really fantastic crowns today and used our imaginations to pretend like we were kings and queens of magical lands. As with any day here at Sunshine Kids it would not be complete without some really great fun in the sun run time! As for tomorrow we are going to huff and puff and chow down on some amazing “three little pigs” trail mix that we will be making ourselves! There is something exciting about driving through a car wash when you are young. The sounds the water the big machine brushes working on shining up the car. The car wash is just a magical place, and the car wash is even better in the Summer time with its long days, sunny skies, and 100 degree weather. Shining up a car is definitely one activity that makes most people nostalgic for summer and having a great driveway to wash it in makes it even better. With that said that is exactly what we did today! Thanks to my wonderful husband who always seems to be on the “Nail” side of a nail or fail pinterest project. He created an awesome “kid wash” he brought to life a magical car wash so that the kids could enjoy water play and washing some of the kiddie cars outside. Needless to say the kids had a blast today and will continue to have a blast for the rest of the summer!
What an awesome way to celebrate the summer! For the next two weeks we will be talking about bodies of water, beaches, and all things Water, Sand, and fun in the Sun! So Why all the themes? The thematic unit or teaching themes is the content and a structure for organizing learning activities. Teaching themes is based on the curriculum. Through themes or units children are able to develop skills and learn as much information as possible about the topic being studied. Preschool themes should be based on children’s needs, interest and developmental level. Many teachers choose a different thematic unit for their classroom each week; other teachers plan their teaching themes for two or four weeks. I prefer to do a new theme every two weeks; because I feel that the kids will get just enough time to learn the information and also not enough time to get bored.
Today we explored our new environment in a free play style this way the children will get used to using and playing with the materials provided. As we get further along in the unit we will discuss our theme more in depth. We will talk about bodies of water, ocean life, coral reefs, and more. Please enjoy day one of our Water sand and fun in the sun unit. We love reading! We love all the exciting adventures we can go on with a our wonderful books! But sometimes its hard for us to keep our hands to ourselves during story time. After all we are very active preschoolers. During our story time we always choose a "Warm Fuzzie"(pom pom) Warm Fuzzies keep our hands occupied and help us listen better. (They have magical powers like that.) With these magical powers the warm fuzzies have been sought after for years by humans who wish to cuddle them. Usually we keep our warm fuzzies in a small tank in the science center, but today we decided to give them a new home. A home that would disguise them from the average human. We inserted the warm fuzzies into a busy buddy body! Now our warm fuzzies are not only going to help us keep our hands to ourselves during Circle time and reading activities, they are going to help us during our transitions. Those times when it is hard to wait for everyone to get ready for the next activity. We each chose a name for our "busy buddy" and have a wonderful time putting them together.
So with out further adieu I give you...... Chase, Jose, Silly, and Who. As we enter into our last two days of our Camping theme, and start to talk about all of our wonderful projects, games and learning activities we have benefited from; we took to the kitchen to make some wonderful smelling Pine play dough. As you can see from previous projects and blogs I love sensory play anything to get the kids’ minds thinking, hands feeling, eyes seeing, noses soaring and ears listening. This is one of those many wonderful activities to do with children. Each child took turns measuring out ingredients and pouring it into our mixing bowl as we talked about the feel and the smell of the ingredients. We talked about the colors of the trees and the smell of branches. This ended up being a very soothing and aroma therapeutic activity. We used a pine essential oil to give the smell of the woods and the color green in order to make the color just right. On another lever the children were able to work on their fine motor skills just by playing with the play dough. Play dough secretly builds up strength in all the tiny hand muscles and tendons, making them ready for pencil and scissor control later on. Poking in objects and pulling them out of play dough strengthens hand muscles and coordination As part of simple, tactile play it can be squashed, squeezed, rolled, flattened, cut, raked, punctured, poked and shredded! Each one of these different actions aids fine motor development in a different way, not to mention hand-eye coordination and general concentration. As soon as you add another element to it, the list of benefits and creative play possibilities continues to grow! The kids love to add play dough to any activity that we are doing and it is fun to see the many possibilities and creations they can come up with.
To make pine Play dough: 2 Cups of flour 2 TBS Oil (Olive oil is what we used) 1/2 Cup of Salt 2 TBS Cream of Tartar 1 1/2 Cups of boiling water (this part I did for the children) About 10 or more drops of green food color About 10 or more drops of Pine essential oil Mix ingredients together and kneed into a ball on lightly floured surface. |
