Today we moved the furniture; rolled out some big posters, and set to work on our "all about me posters." Everyone was able to relax and decorate posters while talking a little bit about their likes and dislikes. They will now be taking them home to decorate some more with some awesome photos of themselves and family members.

As you know our theme for this week has been “All about me.” We have learned many new things about one another as well as some pretty amazing facts like no one has the same finger prints. That is one of the many things that make us special and makes us, us. Today we did our very first cooking project as a new class. We made “Thumbprint cookies” with raspberry jam. We did a fantastic job, and we all ended up being awesome bakers. I hope you enjoy the photos as much as we enjoyed baking and eating these delicious cookies!
Over the past few weeks the children have started to come into the daily routines, and have become familiar with the way our classroom works. They have learned about classroom rules and why they are important. They have learned them importance of washing hands and keeping our classroom safe. During our discovery we have learned how to use certain classroom materials such as markers, glue, crayons, paint, and many other fun classroom items. We have learned where they are located in the classroom and when it is appropriate to use them. Over all we have had a wonderful first two weeks of back to school. We are all really looking forward to our official fall theme "all about me."
It’s that time of year again--Back To School! I feel like less is more in the beginning of the year, too many choices seem overstimulate the children. The goal of the first few weeks is to help them to become comfortable with their classroom, their teacher and their peers. So I have chosen the theme “back to school.” During this time the children will learn about their environment, the way things work in the classroom, while getting acquainted with one another. Additionally they will learn how to care for our classroom, toys, and books. We will talk about the importance of rules in the classroom, as well as hand washing. During this time we will have more child directed activities this way I can spend more time interacting with the children and getting to know a little more about them and the things we will work on during our individual work time.
Please enjoy these photos from our first few days of school! It is a little bitter sweet that all of our school age friends have left us to go back to school. We definitely missed having them with us today. However we had a really great day getting back into the routine of things and enjoying our play time. We had two new friends join us this morning and we are very glad they are here! This morning we enjoyed finger painting to some silly music, and got moving outside with our friends. We have had a great first day of school!
We had a wonderful last day of summer with our school agers. We sent them off with some fun water play in our “kid wash.” Everyone brought their bike so that we could wash them up and have some fun riding and running through the water. The end of the day was celebrated with some yummy cupcakes.
Today we enjoyed playing outside, singing silly songs about fruit, and making banana ice cream. We also talked about monkeys because of course monkeys and bananas are related. So I leave you with one of our jokes of the day… What kind of key opens a banana? A Mon-key!!
Enjoy! We are moving and grooving here at Sunshine Kids! Today we talked about how healthy fruits and vegetables help our bodies grow and how being active and playing helps our bodies stay healthy. Today we used celery to paint beautiful red flowers. We also talked about other fruits and vegetables that help our bodies grow. During this week’s theme Children will be introduced to a brief theme that goes hand in hand with one of our upcoming themes “Healthy Bodies” This will plant the idea of the types of benefits of healthful foods, and how to make healthy food choices. We will have fun while having daily conversations and activities that will be focused around the five major food groups. The Children will also talk about where certain fruits and vegetables come from as well as how to clean and prepare them.
We had a wonderful week with our theme “nature” we created some fantastic art projects. We created nature names by using sticks and leaves to outline our name. This was a great project not only did my friends have a great time looking for neat nature items they were working on name recognition as well. We made stained glass and talked about all the colors coming through with the sun’s rays. We talked about the color spectrum, light, and prisms. We also made our own garden beads and talked about different types of gardens. We remembered our vegetable garden that we planted in the early summer. We even had a bountiful harvest and made a delicious summer salad to go with our yummy homemade pizzas.
Did you ever see a bubble…….a bubble…… a bubble? Did you ever see a bubble that floated so high?....
It reached the tree. It’s higher than me. Did you ever see a bubble that floated so high? Today was all about bubbles! We had fun making bubbles of all kinds. We even created art with blue tinted bubbles. Bubbles are a great way to have fun and explore the properties of air, water, color, and light at the same time. Today we experimented with different bubble wands. We designed our own and tested different bubble wands from different materials such as drinking straws, pipe cleaners, string, funnels, and paper cups. We talked about bubble facts like: Bubbles are made up of air surrounded by a thin film of water. The film, wraps around moving air, trapping the air within. A soapy solution allows the water to stretch. Soapy bubbles are stronger than plain ones because the soap lessens the surface tension, allowing the water to stretch. Today was a fun and scientific day that went perfectly with our theme “splish splash” |
